The Invented Rule That Stops Entrepreneurs From Acting On Intuition

Most entrepreneurs can hear their intuition clearly. The invented rule that fires before they can act on it is the real problem. Matthew Ferry teaches entrepreneurs to trust your intuition in business decisions through the Rapid Enlightenment Process (REP), which identifies and dissolves the Hidden Motive To Survive keeping that fabricated rule in place. Once you hear the block by name, the rule stops arriving first.

    Key Takeaways

    • The block to trusting intuition is an Unconscious Reflex called Following Rules That Do Not Exist, which fires ahead of the information the entrepreneur already has.
    • The Hidden Motive To Survive driving it is Illogical Rules: the fear that if you don’t follow the rules, then you won’t survive.
    • Releasing the Motive opens the Domain of Thriving called Rational, knowing that logic is safe, where intuition stops needing permission.

The Unconscious Reflex That Looks Like Due Diligence

Consider a composite of many I have coached: a network marketing leader with a solid track record. She’s been offered a partnership her gut has pointed toward for three weeks. She ran the numbers twice. She asked her upline. She’s still waiting.

Catch her self-talk in that moment: “You don’t make a decision this size on just a feeling. That’s not how serious entrepreneurs operate.”

Nobody wrote that rule. No mentor issued it. No contract requires it. She treats it like law.

That self-talk is the signature of an Unconscious Reflex called Following Rules That Do Not Exist: obeying rules, constraints, and obligations nobody actually imposed on you. The person in this Unconscious Reflex feels a specific fatigue, exhaustion from self-policing against a standard nobody set.

People call this analysis paralysis or overthinking. Those names describe the symptom. They skip the mechanism underneath.

The Hidden Motive To Survive Behind the Stall

The Rapid Enlightenment Process reveals what the “analysis paralysis” framing misses: the invented rule exists to protect her from a survival fear, not from a bad decision.

The Hidden Motive To Survive underneath Following Rules That Do Not Exist, in this moment, is Illogical Rules: the fear that if you don’t follow the rules, then you won’t survive.

The Illogical Rules Motive generates a ceiling. The invented rule “you can’t act on a feeling for something this big” is a survival calculation running in the background: break the protocol and everything falls apart. That calculation fires every time a decision exceeds whatever threshold the program assigned.

She has experience. She has the numbers. The survival program scans for rule violations and finds them in her own gut.

The pattern runs on repeat: the decision comes up, the intuition speaks, and before she can act on it the Illogical Rules Motive fires the Unconscious Reflex again. Following Rules That Do Not Exist shows up as one more consultation, one more reason to wait. The intuition is still there. The invented rule gets there first.

I’ve spent 30+ years in the room with high achievers who look unstoppable from the outside. The intuition was never absent. The invented rule was simply arriving first.

Why the Runner-Up Motive Does Not Fit Here

Before the release, I want to name the Motive I considered and rejected: Humble, the fear that if you show your power, then you won’t survive.

A person running Humble around an intuition decision sounds like: “Who am I to trust my own judgment on something this significant?” That language points toward power-suppression, a ceiling built from fear of being too visible in one’s own authority.

The self-talk in this pattern sounds different: “there’s a rule and I’d be breaking it.” Rule-language points to Illogical Rules, not Humble. The distinction matters for the release. Humble resolves when a person knows their power is safe to show. Illogical Rules resolves when the person knows logic is safe. These are different Recontextualizations, and applying the wrong one does nothing for the real fear underneath.

    Releasing the False Conditional

The false conditional behind Illogical Rules is: if you don’t follow the rules, you won’t survive.

The Domain of Thriving paired to Illogical Rules is Rational, knowing that logic is safe.

Recontextualization, as taught through REP, disproves a false survival conditional with the truth that was always available. The rule doesn’t exist. Nobody wrote it. Nobody enforces it. What surfaces as intuition in a business context is pattern recognition built from years of real-world experience. An entrepreneur who can trust intuition in business decisions as a legitimate form of reasoning, rather than a protocol violation, no longer needs the invented rule to feel safe.

When the Illogical Rules Motive releases, the mind goes Quiet. From the Domain of Rational, knowing that logic is safe, the invented rule stops arriving before the intuition. The knowing was always available. The survival program was blocking access to it.

    The reader’s practice:
    – Catch it (the Unconscious Reflex: Following Rules That Do Not Exist, running in the background before the decision lands)
    – Name it (the Hidden Motive To Survive: Illogical Rules, the fear that if you don’t follow the rules, then you won’t survive)
    – Recontextualize it (the rule is invented; logic is safe; the intuition is the reasoning available to you)
    – One rep from the Domain of Rational: make the decision your intuition has been pointing to

What you accept will transform. What you resist will persist.

    About the Rapid Enlightenment Process

REP has been independently researched and published in a peer-reviewed journal (JARSS, 2023). The Rapid Enlightenment Process (REP) dissolves the Hidden Motives To Survive that drive fear-based behavior at their root through direct intervention at the source where those survival fears are generated. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do entrepreneurs struggle to trust intuition in business decisions even after years of experience?
A: Experience alone doesn’t dissolve the Unconscious Reflex. The Hidden Motive To Survive called Illogical Rules keeps firing an invented rule regardless of how much experience a person has accumulated. The survival program tracks rule violations, not competence levels. REP addresses the Motive at its source.

Q: What is the Rapid Enlightenment Process?
A: REP has been independently researched and published in a peer-reviewed journal (JARSS, 2023). The Rapid Enlightenment Process (REP) dissolves the Hidden Motives To Survive that drive reactive behavior by eliminating the root program at its source. Learn more at matthewferry.com.
